Rodrigo “Pollo” Cuellar Dipp is the loft manager for Ullman Sails Puerto Vallarta. Pollo started sailing with his mother at the age of 11 aboard his family’s Beneteau 43.7. Soon he fell in love with sailing and traveled to San Diego to participate in the summer sailing camps. He received a Laser as a Christmas present and has been sailing ever since.
A native of Mexico, Pollo has sailed extensively in Banderas Bay off of Puerto Vallarta where he races extensively in Capri 37s – the only local one design keelboat class. Pollo competes with (and continues to learn from) his uncle who sailed in the Olympics for Mexico in the Flying Dutchman class. Pollo and his uncle have consistently been one of the top teams in the Capri 37 fleet for years.
He recently took first in class for the first time in the 2016 MEXORC regatta (Mexico’s largest regatta) sailing aboard his family’s Varianta 44 ‘Nueva Luna’ – it was Pollo’s 6th MEXORC and a high point in his racing career.
In addition to the competition, Pollo is also a passionate cruiser. His cruising experience includes sailing from San Diego to Puerto Vallarta a few times and more relaxing voyages – such as cruising from Rio Dulce, Guatemala to the Colombian islands of San Andres and Providencia.
