With great sadness, the TP52 season has drawn to a close. This year Ullman Sails was proud to support the yacht Macchia Mediterranea. The boat competed in the major Mediterranean offshore regattas with the main goal of nurturing young talented sailors and providing training to them.

We chat to the team to find out more about how the season went and what their plans are for next year:

How was this year’s sailing season?

The level of competition this year was steep and these young sailors soon realised that hard work and learning the boat systems were vital to conquering the fleet.

How did you place?

Rolex Capri Sailing Week, our first event, we were in a good position to finish third however due to a few mistakes on the very last day we closed the regatta in fourth place. At the Rolex Giraglia in Saint Tropez, France we finished second in Class  1 and finally, at the IRC European Championship we finished in fifth place.

What sails did you have onboard?

With the constant evolution in  TP52  sails, we had a brand new full set of Ullman FiberPath Sails made for us this season, with a focus on light wind sailing. It was a pleasure to work with Bruce Hollis of Ullman Sails and to collaborate with him about increasing the performance of our sails. At the moment  our  sailing includes a FiberPath main,  code 1, code 2, code 3 and code 4, as well as an  a1, a2, a3 and a4.

What are your plans for the future?

On the one hand, we are sad as it is the end of the season, but we are excited for 2020. The  TP 52 international class has made a great decision to host a Jubileum in Sardegnaat in the middle of June for all TP52s in two classes. They are also arranging a racing circuit for the old generation boats. We will also do the Italian sailing circuit and the  Italian  Championships at the end of August. We know that a lot of hard work is ahead and there is bound to be some difficulties but we like the challenge.
