Meet The Team
The people who bring your sails to life.
Born in Zimbabwe and having spent a lot of time in the famous Zambesi valley area, Rob has always been a keen wilderness and marine enthusiast. He navigated the Nile River on canoes and barges in the early 1980’s from Wadi Halfa below the Aswan dam to Juba in Southern Sudan, some 2,000 miles and 3 months in duration. He has canoed the Zambezi River extensively and his contribution to the book “Zambesi” ISBN 13: 9780797407909, was rewarded with copy #1 of the limited elephant‑hide bound edition, signed by HRH Prince Phillip, former President of the WWF. In pursuit of the elusive Goliath Tiger fish, he twice travelled to the far North of the Congo River and he and his older son Ryan have each caught 75+ pound monsters, on 2 adventures some 12 years apart.
In salty waters, Rob is a keen fisherman and passionate active NAUI Master Diver with over 2,500 dives. Whilst his sailing abilities are “admittedly mediocre” by Ullman standards, he is RYA qualified to 80 gross tons and has significant time at sea in power and sailing yachts.
Given his passion for the ocean, Rob is now focussed on leveraging his international business expertise with Ullman. Presently based in South Africa where Ullman have their primary manufacturing plant, Rob is working with his younger son Gareth, taking Ullman to be the premier services organisation to the sailing fraternity, exclusively in the state of Florida, USA.

Jason Bashaw, Loft Manager at Ullman Sails Fort Lauderdale, brings a wealth of hands-on sailing and marine experience to the team. Raised in a historic seaport town in Massachusetts as the son of a professional captain, he grew up immersed in life on the water. As a kid he spent a formative year living aboard a boat with his family cruising the East Coast and the Bahamas. New England summer days were often spent sailing small boats around the rivers, lakes and sounds of New England.
After college, Jason lived and traveled aboard his own 30-foot sailboat for 5 years. He outfitted the boat for solo offshore sailing and put well over 10,000 miles under the keel, spending summers on Martha’s Vineyard or Maine and winters in the Bahamas. This experience provided a practical, real-world education in seamanship, and boat systems. He later earned his captain’s license and worked professionally running charter catamarans, delivering vessels along the East Coast and crewing on sailing yachts up to 125 feet.
Since moving to Florida in 2020, Jason has continued working hands-on in the marine industry, repairing and refitting a wide range of vessels. As Sail Loft Manager, he combines real-world sailing experience with technical knowledge to help sailors choose sails built for their needs.
