Kenji Igarashi and his loft joined Ullman Sails in 2010. Located south of Tokyo, Kenji is in the heart of the Japanese sailing community near the primary racing areas used for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and past ¼ Ton and 2 Ton World Cups. Kenji has been a sailmaker for over 40 years, designing and building sails for both racing and cruising customers. He started his first loft in 1974, renting a small flat with a sewing machine to make sails for his Finn. He has had significant success as a sailor and sailmaker – Kenji is not only a ¼ Ton National Champion, but he also was an advisor and sailmaker for Naomi Uemura’s successful feat of reaching the North Pole by sled.
