Best practices for dinghy sail care are quite straightforward. We recommend taking the below steps to ensure that your sails are consistently well cared for. If you have any questions, contact your local Ullman Sails loft.
Store mainsails and jibs dry and rolled in a sausage/tube bag and away from UV exposure.
Store spinnakers dry, loosely packed into their bag and away from UV exposure.
For adjustable battens, release batten tension for storage.
If possible, roll battened sails parallel to the battens to avoid battens taking on a permanent twist.
Don’t hoist sails and leave them flapping for extended periods of time.
Both laminate and woven Dacron sails benefit from the occasional rinse with fresh water.
Do not hoist a wet sail to dry by flapping.
Never put sails into a chlorinated swimming pool to clean.
Do not use solvents or cleaning agents on sails without professional guidance.
